  14. I picked up LightWave for my PC last weekend and although I really like the
  15. program I've come across a couple of quirks. They are:

  17. If you install LightWave to a drive other than C: LW doesn't seem to ba
  18. able to find the directories for scenes, objects, images, ect. The file
  19. requestor always opens to Newtek/programs. (where LW was run from)
  20.  
  21. The fix is to edit your LW.cfg file to make sure it has the proper drive
  22. specified as the contentdirectory.

  25. I've noticed that when LW gets short on ram it will start using virtual
  26. memory. EXCEPT doing previews. I've only got 16 megs or ram so I quite
  27. often get the Windows "Resources Low!" warning when doing previews. On my
  28. machine that generally means I've got about enough ram for about another
  29. 30-40 frames. If I let a perview go past that It will usually crash
  30. LightWave.
  31. The solution to that seems to be that if you get the warning near the start
  32. of your preview you should abort it and use a frame step and a slower
  33. playback. (or buy more ram)   ;^) If you get the warning near the end of
  34. your preview you might be able to finish it.

  36. I've also noticed that some software doesn't seem to like the Targa files
  37. that LightWave renders. Graphic Workshop will crash if I try to view one
  38. and the AVI builder program I got with Vistapro for windows doesn't
  39. recognize them. The PAR on my Amiga has no problem with them though. I
  40. assume the files are un-compressed Targas and most PC software prefers
  41. compressed Targas. Hopefully there will be a switch in the final version of
  42. the software so you can set it for whichever version of file you need.
